Jelveh Javaheri is one of the activists of the One Million Signature Campaign to End ‎Gender Discrimination, and a writer was arrested on Friday. In an exclusive interview ‎with Rooz, her husband said, “I request that due process of law be respected in this case, ‎that authorities act responsibly, and that this uncertainty and confusion be ended.”‎

Kaveh Mozafari, Jelveh’s husband, who himself is an activist in the One Million ‎Signature movement further told Rooz, “Following the written request from the security ‎bureau of the court, we went to court yesterday, but were denied to go upstairs. Our ‎requests about Jelveh were left without answer. We tried to contact the prosecutor at 2pm ‎again, but to no avail.”‎

In response to the question as to when did he learn that his wife had been arrested, ‎Mozafari said, “They never announced that they intended to detain her. She herself sent a ‎message from the prison, saying that she is with Ms Maryam Hosseinkhah. I did not ‎speak with her, as the call was made by Ms Hosseinkhah.”‎

According to Mozafari the charges that have been raised against his wife are disturbing ‎public order and actions against state security. Regarding bail, he said, “Nothing on this ‎has been communicated to us. I think they may want to directly prosecute her.” Mozafari ‎did say that as other activists belonging to the One Million Signature campaign were ‎arrested earlier, he did suspect that his wife too could be detained, but not that authorities ‎would refrain from responding to specific and normal questions. “I suspected that they ‎would increase their pressures on the activists of this movement, and I did suspect this, ‎but not their reticence in responding to our queries,” he said.‎

Jelveh was an MS student in sociology and Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel laureate is ‎representing her as her defense attorney who plans to go to court to pursue the case.‎

In view of the arrest of Maryam Hosseinkhah, Mozafari said
