New information was released about the attackers on Mehdi Karoubi’s house in the holy month of Ramadan. The new information, which was released yesterday, indicated that the “rogue” agents, from whom the Islamic Passdaran Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had tried to distance itself in a statement, were led by the governor of Shemiranat and several other administration officials, including Morteza Tamadon, the governor of Tehran.
During the month of Ramadan, plainclothes agents attacked Mehdi Karoubi’s residence, breaking the windows, throwing paint at the walls, and firing tear gas.
After tensions were diffused, the Mohammad Rasoul-Alah brigade, which is in charge of Tehran’s security in emergencies, released a statement claiming innocence and blaming the attacks on “rogue” individuals.
Now, the website taghyeer, which reflects Mehdi Karoubi’s views, has revealed new details about the attacks.
According to the website, “Because of the responsible authorities and institutions’ failure to release an investigative report, the website taghyeer has come into possession of credible evidence revealing aspects of the organized attack on Mehdi Karoubi’s residence and shedding light on some of its perpetrators in order to enlighten the public opinion and inform the legal authorities by removing certain veils.”
According to taghyeer, “A study of the photographs and reports from the day of attack on Mehdi Karoubi’s residence reveals that Mohammad Larijani, the governor of Shemiranat, was not only present when the plainclothes agents attacked the residence, breaking doors and windows, shooting bullets and tear gas, but also actively participated in the actions perpetrated on that night against Mehdi Karoubi and, in a way, acted as the leader of the plainclothes agents.”
The report continues, “It is interesting that he was, at that time, constantly communicating through telephone with Mr. Tamadon, the governor of Tehran, informing him of the proceedings and details of attacks perpetrated by forces under his control. It must be noted that Mr. Tamadon was present at a location not far away from Mehdi Karoubi’s residence and supervised the proceedings.”
Similarly, sahamnews reported, “An interesting point is that, according to sources close to Mehdi Karoubi, when at 3 o’clock in the morning several individuals from the IRGC and Tehran police visited Mr. Karoubi to discuss the situation with him, Mr. Larijani also participated in the meeting as a member of the IRGC and Tehran police’s delegation.”
At the late-night meeting, a security police commander addressed Mr. Karoubi in a very disrespectful manner, implicitly ordering Karoubi to leave the neighborhood.
According to sahamnews, Karoubi responded, “I don’t recognize this administration as legitimate. It is not a popularly elected administration, but a selected one. This is my house and your duty is to confront the disturbers. Even if I were an infidel citizen, I am entitled to basic rights and it is your duty to protect my safety. I will leave this house only when they issue an arrest warrant for me.”
