In an interview with Rooz, Fahimeh Mousavinejad said that broadcasting the confessions of detainees indicates that the authorities are lacking morality and conscience. She noted, “Their theatre cannot erase the experience and honorable names of these individuals in the public’s view.”
Mousavinejad said about her husband’s confessions, “His literature and the portions published by the Fars news agency did not conform to Mr. Abtahi’s manner of speech. We are his family and familiar with his manner of speech. He was not normal at the court.”
Criticizing the security authorities’ behavior prior to broadcasting the confessions, Mousavinejad said, “They contacted us several times and warned us to be careful about our behavior. They somehow disrupted our family life every three or four days. One day, they arrested our son-in-law; another day, they arrested someone else. One day, they called to threaten us; another day, they searched our house. The behaviors that they exhibited were at the peak of what is unconscionable and immoral. We have had similar experiences in the past, as have friends and many others.”
Mohammad Ali Abtahi’s wife added, “In one of the meetings, he told me that they are giving him a pill in prison that causes him to forget things. We are worried and don’t know what kind of drugs our loved ones are given in prison.”
Regarding her husband’s release, Mousavinejad said, “We are hopeful, but after our meeting with him and the two officials that were accompanying him (with whom I had spoken earlier), I don’t have an idea about what they are doing. One time, they say it’s ending; then they say that if your visitation goes well and is covered positively by the media, we will give you another visitation time. For some time, we thought that the day would come, then they said that they would broadcast the confessions. Everyone knows that such confessions are without legal value. A person who has been under pressure and in solitary confinement for 45 days cannot be normal.”
