Dismissal of the Inspector General
The New Victims of Palizdar’s Revelations - 2008.06.30

Three weeks into the sensational revelations made by Abbas Palizdar a member of the Majlis assembly’s Judicial Inquiry and Review committee about the corruption of senior clerics in the Islamic Republic of Iran and leaders of the conservative pro-government groups, the exposés still takes a toll. The latest quiver came in the form of the dismissal of the Iran’s state inspector general and the court summons of Hassan Kamran, a member of the Majlis and the head of the very committee that Palizdar once sat on.
The head of the Legal committee of the leadership of the Majlis assembly responded to the summons and said, “No summons has been issued by the Majlis leadership to Messers Kamran and Dehgan, and will not be issued.” Mohsen Koohkan, the spokesperson for the leadership of the assembly also responded to the summons and accused the court of taking an illegal action, adding, “The summoning a member of the Judicial Inquiry and Review committee disrupts the legal proceedings of the case.”
In his interviews over the last 2 days, and one that was nationally broadcast on the state television network, Hassan Kamran expressly accused the judiciary of engaging in political games and countering the recent accusations, summons, interrogations and house searches that were directed against Fatemeh Ajorloo, another member of Majlis’ Judicial Inquiry and Review committee, calling the acts an illogical response of the judiciary.
In conjunction with the unofficial publication of the arrest of Hassan Kamran on the Internet, the Iranian media published official versions of the dismissal of Mohammad Niazi, the chief inspector general of Iran. While the media reported Niazi’s dismissal as the “end of his term”, and reported that he had been demoted to the position of deputy inspector general, but, as Tabnak website close to the inner circles of the Iranian regime reported, nobody doubts Niazi’s sudden dismissal is not linked to Palizdar’s case.
Tabnak commented that the reason for Niazi’s dismissal was the reopening of the case against Abbas Palizdar and the heightening of the differences between the heads of the three branches of government in Iran.
Mohsen Ghaeminasab, the director of the office of the head of Iran’s Inspector General who is also the head of the PR bureau was arrested a few days after the arrest of Palizdar on charges of complicity and conspiracy with Palizdar and the unauthorized transfer of classified documents. Officials of the Inspectorate General’s office have categorically denied the charges against Ghaeminasab and have defended his activities to be in line with his official duties.
