The Majlis Will not be Leading
Former MP Dadfar Tells Rooz: - 2008.01.24

Mohammad Dadfar, an MP in the sixth Majlis (Parliament) who is a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections told Rooz that while he does not think there is a serious difference between the seventh and eight Majlis, he believes that those in power desire to have two or three active factions in the parliament so that low key individuals from all factions are present in the body.
Dadfar said that while he did not know exactly how many candidates to the upcoming Majlis elections had been disqualified, he felt that enmasse disqualifications without any accountability were not in the best interests of the country.
The MP told Rooz that the rift among conservative MPs in the Majlis, which surfaced on the Majlis-Administration issue earlier this week, was expected. “It was clear that differences would surface between Majlis representatives. Because the behavior of the executive branch is not acceptable to any Majlis representative. The methods that Mr Ahmadinejad’s government has been using in its foreign and economic policies , are issues that even members of the Seventh Majlis which was extremely unanimous would not remain silent about and accept responsibility for. So the Majlis had to take a confrontational position against the government to protect is image and position,” he said.
This former MP from the southern town of Bushehr said he was not sure more senior politicians would come to the conclusion to accept a larger number of groups as candidates in the upcoming Majlis elections. Commenting on the elections he said that, “voting may turn out low, but elections will take place and the next Majlis will be formed. Even though such a Majlis would not be leading events. “A Majlis that is elected through a small vote will have problems in implementing its duties,” he concluded.
