Media Work outside Iran is Grueling
On the 500th Issue. - 2007.07.03

Mehrangiz Kar, Attorney
For those running Rooz Online, who are doing their best to remain in Iran’s public domain and who have chosen a journalistic goal, because of which they unwishfully have been driven out of doing journalistic work inside Iran, their 500th issue is precious. Certainly Rooz Online is not without fault, like any new publication, but the fact that it has managed remain alive despite all odds and issues and turn into an acceptable Internet newspaper with a large following, is a great achievement.
They say press work is among the tough professions. I would like to add to this by saying that doing journalistic work outside our motherland where first hand sources are not available is grueling. Especially as officials inside Iran enjoy extensive means to filter websites outside Iran and have the ability to disrupt the connections of the media with its readers.
